Bromley North
There has been an expression of concern about the state of Bromley North and the apparent neglect of the area. At the last meeting, it was noted that consultants had been brought in to review the area with a view to including it within the London Mayor’s Great Spaces Initiative. Matters being considered include
- better parking,
- pedestrian areas
- and breaking down the psychological barrier between Bromley North and Market Square.
A drop in centre was set up by the consultants shortly after the last meeting. Further information on this will follow.
Since the last meeting, it has come to the attention of Bromley North businesses that the old Greyhound Pub site has been acquired by Wetherspoons. It is understood that licensing and hours applications are ongoing. Concern has been expressed by the businesses in Bromley North that late licensing will cause problems in the area, similar to those expressed in our last meeting. A greater concern is that late licenses will give rise to anti-social behaviour that could damage Bromley’s reputation.
A meeting was held with the Ward Councillors and the concerns were expressed to them. Enquiries are being raised with the police and the Council regarding the infrastructure within the town to handle the existing night time activity including having facilities for potential new businesses in the night time economy. It is important that all businesses keep a record of and report any antisocial behaviour that happens in the town so that proper consideration can be given to the resources required to ensure that the night time economy is both safe and thriving.
Specifically, if you could prepare a list of any events that cause concern, e.g. the cleanliness of the streets or any violent or abusive behaviour, and if you could keep a log on when this occurred that would be useful.
Regarding cleaning, we are informed that all streets within the Town Centre should be “A Grade” by 8am every day. The cleaning starts in Bromley North and so you would expect this to be done earlier. If there are issues of cleanliness these should be reported to the environmental team help desk on 020 8313 4922.
